This is an abstract painting built almost entirely on vertical drips and dragged brushstrokes — the kind of technique that turns paint into something closer to weather than image.

Composition: The canvas splits into an upper and lower register. The top two-thirds is a curtain of streaked color — mustard yellow, cobalt blue, and pale gray-white bleeding downward as if gravity did some of the painting. The bottom third shifts into a horizontal band of near-black, with the vertical drips continuing to bleed down into it, like reflections in dark water beneath a bright, streaked sky.

Color and mood: Yellow dominates as the warm, energetic note against the cooler grays and blacks. The blue appears more as an undertone peeking through than a primary player. Together the palette reads as tense but not aggressive — more like light breaking through storm clouds, or a cityscape smeared by rain on glass.

Technique: The vertical drips suggest the paint was applied wet and then dragged or allowed to run, possibly with a squeegee or palette knife pulled downward, or diluted paint left to gravity. The texture is heavy in places, thin and translucent in others, giving the surface real physicality — you can see the canvas weave through some of the lighter passages.

Reading it further: Abstract works like this resist a single "meaning" by design — the artist was more interested in the sensation of vertical movement, contrast, and the tension between the light upper zone and dark lower zone than in depicting anything literal. If it reminds you of rain, a forest, or a reflected skyline, that's likely intentional ambiguity rather than a specific reference.

This piece was in the artist’s possession from its creation in 2022 until May 2025.  It is part of a private collection since then.
