A stark break from the series’ colour saturation: the palette pares back to a single candy pink against black-and-white, the checkerboard’s dark squares no longer flat but each containing a tight, tangled knot of woven texture — like small skeins of thread or scribbled static caught inside every alternate cell. The whole board still bulges and swells with the series’ now-familiar spherical distortion, rippling outward from a soft depression near the centre, but the reduction to two colours gives the warping a harder, more optical, almost hypnotic edge.

Statement

Checkeredism #090 strips the series down to its starkest terms. Gone is the layered rainbow of earlier works; in its place, a single insistent pink and a black-and-white knot repeated inside every dark square — as if each choice, examined too closely, resolves not into clarity but into tangle. The board still breathes and bulges as it has throughout the series, swelling toward a shallow basin near its centre, but stripped of colour the distortion reads less like gravity and more like vertigo: a pattern the eye can’t quite settle into.

Marking her ninetieth work in the series, Sosa uses restraint rather than accumulation to make her point — that even a life reduced to its simplest terms, black and white, ordered and disordered, still carries the same tangled evidence of every choice inside it.
