A companion piece to #088, built on the same crisp checkerboard logic but with a different centre of gravity: the outer field alternates in a brisk blue-and-pink rhythm, broken by a magenta rectangular frame, but this time the interior doesn’t stay quiet. Instead it blooms — a soft, cloud-like concentration of orchid, mauve, and sage green pooling at the centre, as though the boundary drawn by the magenta line couldn’t quite contain what was gathering inside it.

Statement

Checkeredism #089 returns to the framed structure of #088, but where that work held its interior calm, #089 lets pressure build within the same boundary. The brisk blue-and-pink exterior remains orderly, disciplined, almost brisk in its regularity — but toward the centre the palette softens and deepens into a hazy convergence of magenta, mauve, and green, the individual squares losing some of their crispness as though blurred by accumulation. Sosa reads this as the moment a contained life stops being merely orderly and starts being felt: the frame holds, but what gathers inside it has a temperature and a weather of its own.

Paired with #088, the work suggests two ways the same boundary can be inhabited — one calm, one charged — both still governed by the series’ central conviction that the pattern a life makes is simply the sum of the choices held within its frame.
