A flatter, more graphic register: a fine grid of white and pale pink cells, crossed by two soft periwinkle-blue columns and framed by a bold magenta rectangle traced just inside the canvas’s edge. Unlike the warped, radial compositions elsewhere in the series, #088 reads almost architecturally — a clean border enclosing a quieter interior, with the magenta line occasionally breaking rhythm to step inward, as though the boundary itself were reconsidering its own shape.

Statement

Checkeredism #088 strips the series back to something closer to architecture than optics. In place of the bulging, radiant, or fractured fields of the surrounding works, Sosa offers a held rectangle — a boundary drawn firmly in magenta, containing a calm interior of white and blush pink, crossed by two steady lavender bands. The frame is not perfectly true: here and there it steps inward, a small irregularity in an otherwise disciplined form, as though even a firmly drawn boundary bends slightly under the accumulated weight of choices made within it.

Where much of the Checkeredism series dramatizes distortion and consequence through movement and warp, #088 pauses on the idea of containment itself — the frame a life builds around its choices, and the quiet tension between the wish for order and the small deviations that inevitably appear inside it.
