After the swelling, gravitational distortions of #083 and #084, Checkeredism #085 is a work of restraint. Sosa returns her grid to near-total order — row after row of pink and green squares locked into the chessboard’s original discipline, each pixel-choice falling exactly where the pattern demands. It reads as a quieter chapter in the artist’s ongoing meditation: a life, or a stretch of one, lived in steady accordance with its own logic, choice compounding choice without upheaval. Yet the piece is not without tension — toward its base, the rigid order begins to soften and drift, a faint reminder that no pattern, however disciplined, stays perfectly fixed for long.

Part of Sosa’s continuing 333-work inquiry into the chessboard as metaphor, #085 sits at the calmer end of the series’ emotional register, its restraint made more striking by what surrounds it.
