A vibrating grid of warped squares in emerald, orchid, and coral, each cell built from a dense micro-checkerboard of pixels that seems to breathe as the eye moves across it. The composition’s rigid chess-board logic — the strict alternation of light and shadow squares — is subverted by a subtle lens-like distortion that ripples through the lattice, causing the rows to bow and swell as though the grid itself were reacting to an unseen pressure from within.

Statement

Sosa, a Dominican artist based in London, draws her visual language from the chessboard — not as a game, but as a diagram of consequence. In her reading, each pixel is a single choice; each square, the accumulation of many choices; and the completed grid, a life. The warp that ripples across the surface of Checkeredism #083 suggests that no choice is made in isolation — one decision bends the field around it, curving the squares that follow. The piece takes its conceptual root in the aphorism we are the choices we make, treating the familiar black-and-white order of chess as a starting point the artist deliberately destabilizes with color, density, and distortion — order giving way to the irregular, personal pattern of a life actually lived.

Now in its 83rd iteration, the Checkeredism series continues to expand as an evolving meditation on decision, pattern, and identity, with Sosa working toward a total of 333 works in the course of 333 days. 

The buyer receives:
