A single flower suspended in absolute darkness — eight rounded petals radiating outward from a burning centre, each one outlined in cyan and filled with layers of orange, magenta, and hot yellow that seem to glow from within. The petals contain internal geometries: subtle suggestions of movement, nested squares, flecks of colour that create a sense of depth and breathing. There is no compression here, no density, no multiplicity — only this one luminous form, solitary and radiant, its colours singing against the void as though it were the last light left in the world.

Statement

Checkeredism #103 marks a moment of singular beauty after the series’ long journey through compression, darkness, and multiplicity. Where #100 and #101 absorbed the individual into the collective, where #102 held eclipse and golden hour in tension, #103 offers something different: a celebration of the single choice made with full colour, full light, full visibility.

The flower is neither botanical nor abstract — it exists in the space between the two, suggesting both organic growth and geometric perfection. Its eight petals echo the mandalas of earlier works, yet stripped of repetition, of multiplication, it becomes something singular, irreplaceable. The black void is not absence but background, stage, the silence necessary for this particular radiance to sing.

The work whispers that consequence is not always compression. Sometimes it blooms. Sometimes it radiates. Sometimes a single choice, made with full awareness and full colour, is enough to light the dark.
