A collision of geometries rendered in black, white, and purple: the corners explode with warped checkerboards that seem to recede into impossible depth, their squares fragmenting and radiating outward like shattered glass. At the composition's heart sits a perfect diamond constructed from nested squares rendered in fine white line work against purple, a mandala-like form that reads almost as a counterpoint to the chaos surrounding it. The purple shifts in temperature and intensity, creating atmospheric perspective as though looking through layers of coloured air toward that central ordered form. The black-and-white checkerboards at the edges frame the composition like a boundary being tested from within.

Statement

Checkeredism #068 explores the relationship between order and rupture, between the central calm and the surrounding turbulence. The nested diamond at the work's heart suggests stillness, meditation, the eye of a storm — while the warped checkerboards at the edges fragment and scatter as though subjected to forces the centre somehow contains or resists.

The purple atmosphere acts as both separation and connection, a field through which one must move to understand the relationship between the orderly and the chaotic. Sosa asks: Is the centre holding the chaos at bay, or is it the product of that chaos? Are the nested squares a refuge or a target? We are the choices we make — and sometimes those choices hold order against overwhelming forces; sometimes they emerge from those forces; sometimes they are inseparable from them.
